Video Game Screen Design — Freelance
For Hyundai's Super Bowl spot "About a Boy," I created all of the 80s-style video game screens that were composited into the matchmove shots — pixel-era game graphics designed to read instantly at broadcast speed while tracking convincingly into live-action plates.
Why it matters: retro game graphics are a language the audience knows by heart. Getting the era right — the palettes, the motion, the resolution — is what makes a two-second insert land in a Super Bowl ad.
The work included
The screens themselves — pixel-era game graphics built to the look of the period. The palettes, the motion, and the resolution all had to hold to the era for the insert to land.
"Designed to read instantly at broadcast speed."
The screens composited into the matchmoved live-action plates — tracking convincingly onto the arcade cabinets in the finished spot.
